Meet The Faces Behind Fourth Trimester
Written by Fourth Trimester
Hi I’m Rachel! A new Mum, Registered Midwife & Nurse, Advanced Fertility Educator and very passionate advocate for all things women, babies, mums, health and wellness with a huge focus on nourishment of the mind, body and spirit.
I strongly believe that Food is Medicine, and time spent outside in the sun should be a priority for everyone!
My business bestie and Co-Founder of Fourth Trimester is Sarah! Sarah is go-getter, an ideas woman and a ball of fun.
Sarah’s greatest passions in life are making people happy, creating wonderful artistic displays (with just about anything she can get her hands on!) and of course… DELICIOUS food.
Our story
We both met each other in high school but really hit it off together after Sarah and I (Rachel) had both launched our first businesses Graze Co (Instagram @graze.co) and Solstice Fertility (Instagram @solsticefertility) and were venturing into the world of business women.
However, we came up with Fourth Trimester after one of Sarah’s close friends was close to welcoming her first baby, and naturally food focussed, Sarah started hunting for a postpartum meal delivery service as a gift for easing the transition from maiden to mother.
Sadly there was nothing that would deliver to Toowoomba, or surrounds and so she made some hearty meals herself! I, on the other hand, had experience through both working as a Registered Midwife, and through working with postpartum clients in Solstice Fertility, had witnessed just how important this period was when it came to nourishing and healing foods.
The 6 week period following birth, and arguably well into the future, is a time for healing, bonding, milk production and establishment, replenishing of blood lost during birth, and rebuilding nutrient stores after growing a babe for 9 months. It’s hard work!
With more exposure and research into how important nourishment was during the postpartum period, I came to learn about the incidence of ‘postnatal depletion’ and how most mothers in Australia have experienced it to some degree. With the current culture of “doing it all” and “bouncing back” combined with a shift in new families lacking a “Village” or family support close by, mums have struggled to take the time to rest, heal their body, bond with their baby and take the time to get to know their new self as a mother.
So, Voila! Fourth Trimester was born over coffee one morning as we both felt this was a missing piece for expectant and new mothers in Toowoomba, and surrounds!
The goal for Fourth Trimester?
To support a healthy and happy transition from expectant woman to mother through delivery of nourishing postpartum meals. Meals that rebuild energy, replenish lost nutrients, support breast milk production and promote healing of the body.
And our goals for the nearby future?
Supportive and informative mothers groups held across Toowoomba, Darling Downs and Western Downs that are focussed on supporting new mothers during this vulnerable, new and often unspoken about time to bring a sense of calmness, confidence and emotional support that will nourish the mind and spirit of mothers well in to the future.
